Chem-Dry Franchisees Share: Why Start a Chem-Dry Carpet Cleaning Franchise

Why start a carpet cleaning franchise? Here’s what Chem-Dry owners have to say

When you are considering franchise opportunities, one of the best ways to learn about a business is to talk to the franchisees who are already part of the brand. So, what do Chem-Dry carpet cleaning franchise owners say about Chem-Dry?

Debbie and Glen Purcell of Upton, Mass. have owned and operated Colonial Chem-Dry for nearly 30 years. The Purcells bought their franchise in 1983, and, just as many of today’s franchisees have discovered, the overall cost and down payment are very reasonable. “Also, because the Chem-Dry cleaning process offers some unique advantages over traditional steam cleaning, we believed it would give us an edge over the competition,” says Debbie Purcell. “Over the years, Chem-Dry has continued to innovate. I believe the cleaning system, products, and equipment are the best in the industry.” Owning a Chem-Dry franchise has afforded them a lifestyle they couldn’t have had in their prior careers. “It gives us the financial freedom to take time off for the activities that enrich our lives,” says Purcell. “It’s also allowed my husband and me to work together for 30 years. Overall, owning a Chem-Dry franchise has been a great experience for us.”

Rollen Ross brings a different perspective. He was an independent carpet cleaner for 18 years before joining Chem-Dry. He says the training is excellent, and the cleaning process is superb. Additionally, he has found the marketing program to be especially helpful as he takes his business to the next level. The Chem-Dry brand helps a lot, too.

“One of the best things about being a Chem-Dry carpet cleaning franchise owner is the name recognition. I worked as an independent cleaner for years, and I can tell you that having a name people know and trust makes a big difference in how much business you get. Chem-Dry is a name people are used to and it’s a good name on top of that. I’ve had several people call and book appointments just because they have seen the ‘Chem-Dry’ on our vans. It’s invaluable.” Newer carpet cleaning franchise owners say they have benefitted from great training and support, as well as the friendly advice of fellow franchisees. When John Nielsen started Longleaf Chem-Dry a few years ago in Mobile, Alabama, he knew that he would have a strong support system by his side.

“If there’s a certain kind of material I’ve never seen before or a stain I’m not familiar with, I can call corporate or one of the other local Chem-Dry guys,” he says. “I’ve never had an occasion where they haven’t seen it before and couldn’t give me advice. The Chem-Dry network is really pretty cool. Even with the guys here in Mobile, we don’t see each other as competitors because there’s so much business to win. We have a good relationship and help each other out. If a customer needs me and I’m all booked up, I can give one of them a call to take the job and keep my customer happy. I like knowing that they’re going to get a great level of service.”
